UTME Registration Opens January 26, JAMB Announces

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence on January 26 and run until February 28 at all accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Saturday in Lagos during a meeting with Commissioners for Education ahead of the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry (DE) exercises. He explained that the sale of UTME application documents, known as e-PINs, would begin before the official registration period.

According to him, the sale of e-PINs will run from January 19 to February 26, while actual UTME registration will take place between January 26 and February 28 at approved CBT centres nationwide.

Prof. Oloyede also revealed that the window for selecting the mock examination would close on February 16. In addition, the sale of Direct Entry application documents and e-PIN vending is scheduled to start on March 2 and end on April 25.

He further disclosed that, unlike in previous years, the results of underage candidates would only be released after the completion of a comprehensive evaluation process. This, he said, is to ensure a thorough assessment of candidates seeking age-related waivers.

On the issue of monitoring, the registrar stated that all CBT centres involved in UTME registration would be monitored live from JAMB headquarters. He warned that any centre whose activities cannot be viewed in real time would not be paid and such registrations could be cancelled.

Oloyede added that 924 CBT centres have been provisionally approved but will still undergo a final assessment before receiving full accreditation to participate in the registration and examination process.

He also clarified that candidates are not required to pay any service charges to CBT centres, stressing that only the registration fees approved by JAMB are valid.

Addressing concerns about candidates being posted to distant examination towns, the registrar said JAMB only posts candidates to towns selected during registration. He advised candidates to register early, noting that late registration could reduce their chances of being assigned to preferred locations.

He also cautioned candidates to truthfully declare any previous registration or admission history with the board, warning that running more than one undergraduate programme simultaneously is a criminal offence.

On eligibility, Prof. Oloyede stated that candidates must be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, to qualify for UTME admission consideration. However, he noted that underage candidates may be considered for waivers after undergoing a rigorous evaluation process.

According to him, such candidates must score at least 80 per cent in UTME or A-Level, Post-UTME, SSCE, and the exceptional candidate assessment to be eligible for a waiver.
