Lekan Jimoh, alias “Kanmo-Kanmo,” a long-wanted drug kingpin, has been arrested 12 years after allegedly orchestrating the killing of three NDLEA officers.
Jimoh was apprehended on Friday, January 16, 2026, in Owode town, Ogun State, following intelligence-led operations by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Authorities recovered 69 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from his hideout.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that Jimoh had been on the agency’s wanted list since June 15, 2014, after allegedly mobilizing armed thugs to attack officers attempting to arrest him. The attack resulted in the deaths of three NDLEA officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure.
“Kanmo-Kanmo’s arrest is a major victory in the agency’s mission to ensure fugitives cannot evade justice indefinitely,” Babafemi said. He described Jimoh’s criminal record as marked by extreme violence and lawlessness.
This arrest follows previous operations, including a 2023 raid in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, where NDLEA seized 1,922 kilograms of skunk from one of Jimoh’s properties. The seized property was later forfeited to the federal government.
Babafemi also detailed other recent operations across Nigeria:
- Edo State: 320 kilograms of skunk and cannabis seeds seized from a suspect in Arokpa forest.
- Abuja: 2.2 kilograms of skunk and cannabis oil confiscated from a woman selling drugs online.
- Lagos: 118.1 kilograms of skunk seized from two suspects in Mushin.
- Enugu: 116 kilograms of skunk recovered from a warehouse.
- Delta: Two suspects arrested transporting tramadol, codeine syrup, diazepam, and other drugs.
- Oyo: Large quantities of skunk, Colorado, Scottish Loud, tramadol, and bromazepam recovered in Ibadan.
- Kwara: 387.4 kilograms of skunk seized in Ilorin.
- Jigawa: Two suspects, including ex-convicts, arrested with skunk and exol-5 pills.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.) praised officers nationwide for their efforts, calling Jimoh’s arrest a triumph of justice and a clear message to all fugitives: “You may run and hide, but the long arm of the law will eventually find you.”
The agency continues to intensify operations against drug trafficking networks, targeting long-wanted suspects and disrupting illicit supply chains across Nigeria.
