Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has reportedly died days after sustaining injuries during a joint United States–Israel airstrike on Tehran.
Iranian media reported that the 79-year-old was at Khamenei’s residence in the capital when the strike occurred. She was said to have been wounded in the attack and later passed away on Monday due to complications from her injuries.
Born in Mashhad, Bagherzadeh was the sister of Hassan Khojaste Bagherzadeh, a former deputy director of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). She married Khamenei in 1964, and the couple had six children—four sons, Mostafa, Mojtaba, Masoud and Meysam, and two daughters, Hoda and Boshra.
Her reported death deepens the personal and political fallout from the strike that allegedly killed Khamenei, further intensifying tensions across the Middle East.
Iranian authorities have described Khamenei’s killing as a declaration of war. In a televised address on Sunday, President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed a strong military response, insisting that Iran would retaliate against those responsible.
Tehran has since claimed it launched missiles at multiple U.S. military installations in the Gulf region. It also alleged that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was hit by ballistic missiles, a claim denied by U.S. Central Command.
Iran further asserted that the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was targeted, though Israeli officials rejected the claim.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, hundreds of people have been killed since hostilities escalated, with numerous cities reportedly affected.
Meanwhile, the United States and Israel have continued strikes on Iranian missile sites and naval facilities, stating that significant damage has been inflicted on Tehran’s military infrastructure.
