Wike-Led PDP Announces Date for 2027 Presidential and Governorship Primaries.

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party linked to Nyesom Wike has fixed May 23, 2026, for its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The date was agreed during the party’s 106th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where members also approved a full timetable for other primaries in line with the schedule released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the communiqué read by the caretaker committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the party will submit its membership register to INEC by April 10, 2026. State House of Assembly primaries are set for May 2, National Assembly primaries for May 9, governorship primaries for May 16, and the presidential primary for May 23.

The committee said the timeline complies with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates INEC to issue election notices at least 300 days before the polls.

Party organs and stakeholders nationwide were urged to begin preparations and strictly follow the approved schedule.

The NEC also confirmed that the party’s national convention will hold on March 29 and 30 to elect a new National Working Committee in line with its constitution.

Members commended the caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed for stabilising the party during the transition and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of ward and local government congresses.

The committee also welcomed recent rulings of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria affirming the caretaker leadership, describing the judgments as strengthening the party’s constitutional processes.

It urged party leaders involved in disputes to seek reconciliation rather than pursue further litigation, especially appeals to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the party condemned attacks on members during recent congresses in Oyo State and called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Prominent party figures at the meeting included Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ikpeazu and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa.
