2026 World Cup Final: Cucurella Promises International Retirement, Tattoo If Spain Defeat Argentina

Spain defender Marc Cucurella has revealed he will retire from international football and get a tattoo of head coach Luis de la Fuente on his bicep if La Roja overcome Argentina in Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The recently signed Real Madrid star said winning both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup would mark the perfect conclusion to his international career.

“If we win the World Cup, I’ll call Luis the next day and tell him not to count on me anymore because I’ll be retiring from the national team,” Cucurella said.

He added, “With a European Championship and a World Cup, there would be nothing more for me to achieve.”

The defender also vowed to honour Spain’s coach with a permanent tribute, saying he would tattoo De la Fuente’s face on his bicep if the team lifts the World Cup trophy.

Cucurella is no stranger to making bold promises. Before Euro 2024, he pledged to dye his hair red if Spain won the tournament—a promise he fulfilled after Spain emerged champions.

However, the 28-year-old insisted there is one tattoo he would never consider, previously stating that he would rather shave his head than get the Barcelona club crest inked on his body.

Spain head into Sunday’s final in outstanding form, having defeated Portugal, France and Belgium on their way to setting up a title showdown with Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
