The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed that the third and final phase of the registration will commence on Monday, May 11, 2026, and run until Friday, July 10, 2026.
He urged eligible Nigerians who have reached the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier registration phases, to take advantage of the opportunity to register.
Haruna also advised already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or update their personal details to either visit INEC offices at the state and local government levels or use the Commission’s online portal.
As part of the process, INEC will display the voter register for public scrutiny, allowing for claims and objections from July 23 to July 29, 2026, to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the data.
The Commission noted that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for cleanup of the register after its initial publication.
INEC reassured Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for a smooth exercise and encouraged widespread participation to strengthen the country’s electoral system.
