AAC Appoints New National Chairman As Sowore Resigns {VIDEO}

Human rights activist and 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has resigned as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Naija News reports that the announcement was made in a statement released by the party on Tuesday, shortly after Sowore emerged as the AAC presidential flag bearer during the party’s primary election in Abuja.

The party confirmed that Samuel Ajeigbe has now taken over as the new National Chairman.

“Omoyele Sowore has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress,” the statement read.

“The party hereby welcomes Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of our great party.”

Sowore’s resignation came only hours after delegates and party leaders unanimously endorsed him as the AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

He was handed the party’s flag during the primary election as supporters from different parts of the country celebrated the announcement.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was created to build a “new Nigeria” free from corruption, insecurity, and poor leadership.

He praised party members for remaining committed despite economic challenges and political pressure.

Sowore also used the occasion to criticise the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of incompetence and political manipulation.

Reacting to claims that more than 10 million APC members participated in President Bola Tinubu’s presidential primary, Sowore dismissed the figures as unrealistic.

“There is no way APC can have 10 million people as members,” he said.

“I can guarantee you that APC cannot boast of 10,000 members.”

Political analysts believe Sowore’s decision to step down as party chairman could help separate the AAC’s internal administration from his presidential campaign activities.
