INEC Sets June 26 for Release of Candidate Nomination Portal Access Codes Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will issue access codes to all registered political parties for its Candidate Nomination Portal on June 26, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday during the Second Quarterly Consultative Meeting with political party leaders at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to Amupitan, the access codes will enable political parties to upload the names and details of candidates nominated to contest various elective positions in the 2027 polls.

He cautioned that the nomination portal is fully automated and will shut down automatically once the stipulated deadline expires, stressing that no extension would be granted. He therefore urged political parties to ensure their ICT teams and relevant officials are adequately prepared to avoid last-minute challenges.

The INEC chairman also called on political parties to support the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by intensifying voter education and mobilisation efforts. He encouraged eligible Nigerians who have turned 18, as well as those seeking transfers or corrections to their voter records, to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Amupitan further expressed concern over the growing number of court cases involving internal leadership disputes within some political parties, describing the litigations as distractions that could undermine effective political participation. He urged the affected parties to resolve their differences promptly and focus on strengthening their internal structures ahead of the next general elections.
