Social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded defiantly to threats of legal action from the Presidency following a viral doctored video allegedly containing a fake audio clip of President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reports that the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had accused VDM of circulating false content online, describing the act as an abuse of social media and calling for him to be held accountable under the law.
Onanuga stated that VDM should face legal consequences for allegedly sharing an AI-generated audio attributed to the President, insisting the matter amounted to misinformation.
In reaction, VDM said he would not attempt to defend the allegation, but instead expressed readiness to confront any legal proceedings.
He declared that he was prepared to face the law and even adjust his travel plans to return earlier than scheduled if necessary.
“I will not defend the allegations. If I respond, let God punish me. I want to face that law. I will even book a flight to come earlier than I planned. I want to see what you people can do,” he said.
VDM also maintained that he has the right to criticise the government when he believes it is acting wrongly, adding that freedom of expression is protected in a democratic system.
“If you are pained that VDM is speaking, what option do I have other than to speak?” he said.
“It is my right to criticise the government when it is doing wrong. We are in a democracy.”
