Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has opened up about the circumstances that led to the end of his previous romantic relationship, revealing that emotional strain and manipulation played a major role in his decision to walk away.
Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the award-winning singer reflected on the highs and lows of the relationship, describing it as beautiful in its early stages but increasingly difficult as time went on.
According to Rema, the pressures that come with his music career are already demanding, and he had hoped his relationship would provide a sense of peace and comfort away from public scrutiny and professional responsibilities.
However, he said the opposite became the case, as he often returned home to more emotional stress rather than relief. The singer alleged that his former partner could be manipulative, making the relationship increasingly challenging to maintain.
Rema explained that after enduring the situation for a long time, he eventually decided to prioritize his mental and emotional well-being by ending the relationship.
Reflecting on the experience, he said:
“My romantic relationship was beautiful but a little manipulative. There was so much pressure. The world already puts a lot of pressure on me, and home is supposed to be a place where you find peace. But when you come home and face even more pressure, it’s a different story. For now, I’m done.”
