Popular Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo has alleged that he knows the politicians responsible for the recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo State, warning that he may expose their identities if they do not stop.
Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with new executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by Akinteye Bàbàtunde at his residence in Ibadan, Soka area, Igboho claimed he is capable of confronting the armed groups but said his efforts have not been approved by the state government.
He also denied claims that he demanded money from the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde to assist in rescuing pupils recently abducted in Orire Local Government Area.
Igboho further alleged that the kidnappings are politically motivated, aimed at destabilizing the administration of President Bola Tinubu, comparing the situation to similar unrest during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
He stated that he is ready to storm criminal hideouts if allowed, insisting the kidnappers are human and can be dislodged. However, he claimed the state government warned him against intervening, allegedly saying the abductors threatened to kill the victims if he got involved.
The activist also said his security initiative, “Iru Ekun,” received federal approval but was restricted by the Oyo State Government from operating. He questioned why authorities would prevent local security efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted children.
Igboho added that he has no personal fear due to his family being abroad, and reiterated his criticism of efforts he believes are meant to undermine President Tinubu’s government.
Recall that about 46 pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15 during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.
