2027: Atiku Could End Up a Distant Fourth, Lacks Strong Political Backing — Bwala says

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has cast doubt on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, suggesting he may struggle to secure significant support.

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Bwala said he believes there is a possibility that former Labour Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar could be outperformed by Peter Obi, who is expected to contest under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He also expressed concern that Atiku could finish as low as fourth place in the race, a result he said could impact the former vice president’s political legacy if it turns out to be his final presidential bid.

Bwala contrasted Atiku’s current standing with the support he enjoyed during the 2023 election, when he had the backing of several PDP governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives.

According to him, the political landscape has since changed, with Atiku allegedly lacking the support of influential political figures and governors ahead of the 2027 contest.

“Peter Obi may attract more votes than Atiku Abubakar in 2027, and there is also the possibility that Atiku could finish a distant fourth,” Bwala said.

He added that Atiku currently does not appear to have the level of political support he enjoyed in 2023 and noted that no serving governor is publicly backing the former vice president at this stage.

Bwala further argued that Atiku has historically not commanded the highest vote share from the North-West region throughout his political career.
