The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has criticized recent demands for the resignation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
This follows comments from APC Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, who urged Wike to step down and focus on Rivers State politics.
In a statement on Monday, Forum Chairman Saleh Zazzaga praised Wike’s achievements since becoming FCT Minister, emphasizing that he should be allowed to continue his work, which benefits the FCT and the broader North-Central region.
The Forum described calls for Wike’s removal as attempts to derail the progress made under the Tinubu administration. It stressed that its priority is the development of the FCT and the North-Central, not the political conflicts in Rivers State.
Zazzaga stated:
“The North-Central APC Forum rejects calls for the resignation of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. He is performing exceptionally under the APC administration, turning the FCT around in just two years, whereas previous ministers achieved little over eight years. It is condemnable that some individuals, even party leaders, are calling for his removal for selfish reasons.”
The Forum warned those pushing for Wike’s resignation to desist and avoid mass protests in the FCT. It noted that these actions are harmful to President Bola Tinubu’s administration and could undermine the country’s development.
“Wike has added tremendous value to this administration, especially in infrastructural development. Those calling for his sack do not have the best interests of the president or the nation at heart. Our focus remains on the development of the North-Central region, to which Wike is making significant contributions,” Zazzaga added.
