Amaechi Accepts Atiku’s Offer to Be Running Mate for 2027 Election

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly chosen former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by Leader Sampson, the immediate past ADC chairman in Rivers State, who stated that Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential nomination.

Amaechi had previously contested the ADC presidential primary but was defeated by Atiku. Before the primary, he had publicly stated that he did not purchase the party’s presidential nomination form with the intention of becoming vice president.

Following the primary election, Amaechi also voiced strong objections to the outcome, amid allegations from some party members that the exercise was manipulated in Atiku’s favour.

However, when asked whether the former Rivers State governor had now agreed to serve as Atiku’s running mate, Sampson responded in the affirmative, confirming that Amaechi had accepted the role.
