The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion along Baale Animashaun Road in the Ifako-Ijaiye area to facilitate the construction of critical drainage infrastructure aimed at reducing flooding and improving stormwater management.
According to the government, the diversion will take effect from June 15, 2026, and remain in place for approximately eight weeks while work is carried out on a new culvert designed to channel water from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street, and surrounding communities across Baale Animashaun Road.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the affected section of the road will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of workers and road users during the construction period.
As a result, motorists approaching from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be unable to access Baale Animashaun Road directly until the project is completed.
To ease movement, the state government has provided alternative routes for commuters. Drivers can access the area through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, popularly known as Post Office Road, connecting to Alakuko Road before rejoining Baale Animashaun Road.
Other designated diversion routes include Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction through Alhaji Ganiyu Road, as well as the Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop corridor, which passes through Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street, and Fola Azeez Street before linking back to the main road.
The government advised motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic management officials, obey road signs, and follow designated diversion routes throughout the construction period to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimise disruptions.
