Lagos State Gov Unveils Traffic Diversion Plan Ahead of Iddo Bridge Closure in Ijora axis

The Lagos State Government has announced alternative traffic arrangements ahead of the temporary shutdown of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora axis of Apapa for ongoing rehabilitation works.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the closure is necessary to enable the Federal Ministry of Works install heavy steel beams as part of the bridge reconstruction project.

According to the government, the entire bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic during specific periods to ensure the safety of motorists, construction workers and other road users.

The bridge will be shut from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, and again from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

To ease movement during the closure, the state government advised motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain to use Funsho Williams Avenue.

Road users heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain have been directed to access Iddo-Onigbe via the ramp, connect through Oyingbo and continue their journey on Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, motorists travelling from Apapa or Ijora Olopa towards Carter Bridge and Marina are advised to use Eko Bridge, linking through Apapa Road and Murtala Muhammed Way via Iddo-Onigbe.

The government appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate with traffic officials who will be deployed to manage vehicular movement and minimise disruptions throughout the closure period.

Officials assured that adequate traffic control measures have been put in place to ensure smooth flow and reduce inconvenience while rehabilitation works continue on the bridge.
