ADC Explains Delay in Unveiling Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate

The camp of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed speculation surrounding the delay in formally presenting former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Responding to claims circulating on social media that internal disagreements within the ADC were responsible for the delay and that Amaechi had yet to accept the offer, Atiku’s media aide, Abdulrasheed Shehu, clarified that the situation was unrelated to any dispute within the party.

In a post shared on X on Saturday, Shehu explained that the official unveiling had been postponed because Atiku is currently away on a brief business trip.

According to him, all arrangements regarding the Atiku-Amaechi ticket have already been concluded, and the former Rivers State governor will be formally introduced as the vice-presidential candidate once Atiku returns.

“Atiku/Amaechi is settled. His Excellency is on a short business trip. Upon his return, Amaechi will be officially unveiled as the vice-presidential candidate within a few days. Stop spreading fake news,” the statement read.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation following the ADC’s emergence as a key player ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Initial uncertainty and the absence of an immediate official announcement had fueled rumours about the status of the proposed Atiku-Amaechi ticket.
