David Umahi Provides Update on Efforts to Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has disclosed that South-East leaders are pursuing political avenues that could lead to the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking during an inspection of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Epe, Lagos State, Umahi said governors and stakeholders in the region are committed to maintaining peace while seeking lawful and political solutions regarding Kanu’s detention.

He stated that South-East governors are actively addressing insecurity and working towards stability in the region, adding that efforts are ongoing to support Kanu’s release through political engagement.

Umahi also criticized former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, accusing him of not taking a firm stance against insecurity and the Monday sit-at-home order observed in parts of the South-East.

The minister further reacted to social media reports alleging that Obi had promised to discontinue some of President Bola Tinubu’s major infrastructure projects if elected president. Umahi described such a move as unfortunate, stressing that projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway are critical to national development and economic growth.

According to him, ongoing infrastructure initiatives would create significant economic opportunities for the South-East and other parts of the country.

Umahi also declared that Ebonyi State remains loyal to President Tinubu, distancing the state from the Obedient Movement. He challenged supporters of Obi to compare the developmental records of Tinubu as former governor of Lagos State and Obi as former governor of Anambra State.
