Tobi Amusan Matches Season’s Best to Claim Paris Diamond League Title

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan continued her impressive return to form by winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday, equalling her season’s best time of 12.28 seconds.

The reigning world record holder produced a dominant display at Stade Charléty, comfortably finishing ahead of American athletes Grace Stark, who posted 12.38 seconds, and Alaysha Johnson, who crossed the line in 12.39 seconds.

The victory marked the third occasion Amusan has recorded 12.28 seconds this season, having achieved the same time at the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings earlier in the year.

Despite soaring temperatures in the French capital, the Nigerian delivered a composed and technically sound performance. Organisers had adjusted the competition schedule after an intense heatwave forced the cancellation of youth and regional club events, with track temperatures reaching 32°C on Sunday.

Although Dutch athlete Nadine Visser enjoyed the faster start, Amusan responded strongly, accelerating through the middle stages of the race and producing a flawless run over the hurdles to take command before the finish.

The triumph represents Amusan’s second Diamond League victory of the 2026 season, following her earlier success in Rabat. She also claimed the title at the New Taipei City Athletics Open this month, further underlining her resurgence.

The 28-year-old, who opened the season after securing a fourth consecutive African title, appears well positioned to qualify for the Diamond League Final. Having won three successive Diamond League trophies from 2021 to 2023, Amusan will now be aiming to reclaim the overall crown this season.
