Arise News Political Editor, Sumner Sambo, has advised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, to remain with the party and confront its current legal and political challenges instead of seeking another platform.
Sambo made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, following a ruling by a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which nullified its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
Reacting to the court’s decision, the political analyst questioned what he described as a recurring pattern of controversies surrounding political parties associated with Obi.
According to him, challenges appear to intensify whenever the former Anambra State governor joins a political platform, raising concerns about efforts to weaken parties linked to the former presidential candidate.
Sambo argued that the latest development presents Obi with an opportunity to demonstrate political resilience by remaining in the NDC and defending the party rather than considering another defection.
He maintained that leaving the NDC would not end the political opposition Obi has continued to face over the years.
The Arise News editor noted that Obi had encountered political battles in previous parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), suggesting that moving to another platform would not necessarily shield him from similar challenges.
He therefore urged the NDC presidential candidate to stay with the party, fight the legal and political battles ahead, and prove his political strength by emerging victorious.
