A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has alleged that the National Assembly is backing President Bola Tinubu in what he described as an effort to weaken opposition parties and their candidates.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Galadima accused the Tinubu administration of prioritizing politics over governance since assuming office.
According to him, the President has focused more on political calculations than on delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
Galadima also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to suppress political opposition, insisting that Nigeria’s democracy would ultimately outlast any such efforts.
He further claimed that the National Assembly was playing an active role in supporting the alleged agenda against opposition figures and parties.
According to Galadima:
“For the last two years I have been criticizing the APC and its government because from the day Tinubu was inaugurated as Nigeria’s president, he started politicking instead of delivering services and democratic dividends to Nigerians.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s right or wrong; democracy must outlive them. I have said repeatedly that the president does not want to compete with anybody. He will try to destroy all opposition candidates and parties, and he is actively being supported by the National Assembly.
“Now they have dragged the judiciary into it as a complementary part of the larger picture that this APC government is trying to create for Nigerians.
“Democracy will survive. Whether the APC or Tinubu is trying to subvert it, democracy will outlive them.”
