The manager of veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku, Moses Allen, has dismissed concerns about the actor’s mental health following a viral video that sparked widespread speculation on social media.
The clip, recorded in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja, showed Anuku dressed in jeans, a black top and sneakers while sitting near a roadside, talking to himself and holding a disposable cup. The footage quickly circulated online, prompting many Nigerians to question his wellbeing.
Reacting to the controversy during an interview with Premium Times, Allen insisted that the actor is mentally sound and that his expressive behaviour is often misunderstood because of his artistic personality.
According to him, Anuku’s creative nature sets him apart from the average person, leading many to wrongly interpret his actions.
Allen said people should seek clarification instead of making assumptions whenever videos of the actor surface online.
He explained that artists often operate differently because of their imaginative and creative mindset.
“Hanks is a character; he’s an actor. Most of what he does comes from his own creative world. People mistake it for madness, but that’s not the case. An artist doesn’t always operate in the same way as everyone else,” he said.
The manager also stressed that there was nothing unusual about the actor’s actions in the video, noting that he was simply sitting quietly, speaking to himself and possibly rehearsing or imagining a scene.
He maintained that Anuku was not disturbing anyone, behaving violently or engaging in inappropriate conduct.
Allen further described the actor as a responsible family man, adding that he has managed him for several years and can confidently attest to his mental stability.
He urged the public to stop spreading unfounded claims, insisting that the Nollywood veteran is in good condition and has never been in a better mental state.
According to Allen, people should appreciate Anuku’s creativity rather than mistake it for mental illness.
