INEC Gives Labour Party Access to Candidate Nomination Portal for 2027 Elections

The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted it access to the nomination portal for the submission of candidates’ details ahead of the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja, revealing that the upload of candidates’ particulars began on Saturday.

According to Asogwa, the exercise has progressed smoothly, with a significant number of candidates already uploaded to INEC’s portal. He added that the party is working to complete the process within the deadline set by the electoral commission.

“The Labour Party can confirm that INEC has provided the party with the access code required to upload its governorship and House of Assembly candidates to the INEC nomination portal,” Asogwa said.

“The upload exercise commenced on Saturday and has been progressing seamlessly. As of this morning, we have uploaded a substantial number.”

However, he did not reveal the identities of the candidates or the states whose nominations have already been submitted.

Asogwa also addressed the technical issues experienced during the earlier submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates, stressing that the challenges were not unique to the Labour Party.

He explained that several political parties encountered similar difficulties due to discrepancies between candidates’ names on party records and those contained in INEC’s database.

According to him, harmonising the information on both platforms was the major challenge, affecting multiple political parties during the initial upload process.

INEC had earlier announced the timetable and deadlines for political parties to submit the particulars of their candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Labour Party assured its members and candidates that it remains committed to completing the submission process accurately and within the timeframe stipulated by the electoral commission.
