The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted the first batch of Nigerian troops assigned to the NIGCOY 5 ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), reinforcing its critical role in providing strategic air mobility for the Armed Forces of Nigeria and supporting the country’s commitment to regional peace and security.
The first contingent, made up of 86 personnel, including 12 officers and 74 soldiers, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a NAF C-130 aircraft bound for Guinea-Bissau. The remaining members of the contingent are expected to be deployed in a follow-up airlift.
Before their departure, the troops were officially bid farewell at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Force Operations Base in Abuja. During the ceremony, they were urged to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity while representing the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria throughout the mission.
The deployment reflects the strong collaboration among the services of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and showcases the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained strategic airlift capability in support of both national and multinational operations. It also reaffirms Nigeria’s longstanding leadership in ECOWAS peacekeeping initiatives and its continued commitment to strengthening regional stability, promoting international cooperation, and enhancing the country’s reputation on the global stage.
