Senator Rufai Hanga Quits NDC

Senate Deputy Minority Whip and Kano Central Senator, Rufai Hanga, has resigned from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The lawmaker announced his exit in a resignation letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the NDC in his ward.

According to Hanga, his decision followed careful consideration and personal reflection, as he intends to focus on other personal commitments and career pursuits.

In the letter, the senator thanked the party’s ward leadership and members for their support, cooperation and the opportunities he enjoyed during his time in the NDC. He said he remains grateful for the relationships and experiences gained through his political activities within the party.

“I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective today, August 3, 2026,” Hanga stated.

He added that after thoughtful deliberation, he decided to withdraw his membership to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.

The senator also enclosed his NDC membership card with the letter and requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register at the ward level.

Hanga concluded by wishing the party and its members success in their future endeavours.

His resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and is expected to fuel speculation about his next political destination.
