PDP Appoints Caretaker Committees in Five States

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the formation of caretaker committees to oversee the party’s activities in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun states.

According to Naija News, the decision was taken on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended). This was disclosed in a public notice signed on Thursday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.

The PDP explained that the move was aimed at ensuring effective administration and continuity of party structures at the state level.

Shan stated that the NWC, acting for the NEC and in compliance with the party’s constitution, approved the appointment of party leaders to serve on the caretaker committees in the five affected states.

In Delta State, Prof. Sylvester Monye was appointed chairman of the caretaker committee, with Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq. named as secretary, alongside other members drawn from across the state.

For Enugu State, Barr. Steve Oruruo will serve as chairman, while Martin Ugwuamadieze takes on the role of secretary. In Imo State, Chief John Jude Okere and Mr. Magnus Amadi were appointed chairman and secretary, respectively.

The Rivers State caretaker committee will be led by Ogbam Ojimah as chairman, with Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor as secretary. In Osun State, Hon. Tunde Tijani was named chairman, while Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola will serve as secretary.

The party noted that the caretaker committees are mandated to handle the day-to-day administration of the PDP in their respective states, in line with Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party’s constitution.

The tenure of the committees is for a period of 90 days or until new state executive committees are elected. They are expected to carry out their duties in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The development places the affected state chapters under interim leadership as the PDP prepares to reconstitute its elected structures in the five states.
