The family of late Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has announced the cancellation of the burial plans earlier scheduled for her funeral.
According to Naija News, the decision was made public on Saturday through a statement shared on social media by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate of the late singer and a member of the burial planning committee.
Alewilese explained that the cancellation followed unresolved issues within the singer’s family, adding that all preparations previously made by the committee had been withdrawn.
The statement read in part: “This is to notify the general public that all plans and arrangements for the burial of our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu, also known as Omije Ojumi, have been completely cancelled by the Burial Planning Committee. This decision became necessary due to issues arising from within her family. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause.”
Omije Ojumi died on January 12 at a Lagos hospital after battling a prolonged leg-related illness. Her condition had earlier attracted widespread concern within the gospel music community, with colleagues and fans offering prayers and support before her passing.
Prior to the cancellation, burial details had circulated online, outlining activities such as a service of songs, candlelight procession, artistes’ night, and interment scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2026. The information was shared by gospel singer Alayo Melody on behalf of the family.
As at the time of this report, the family has yet to announce a new burial date or release fresh arrangements.
