Imo East APP Senatorial Candidate, Amadi, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Threat to Life

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
The Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District, also known as Owerri Zone, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life ahead of the January 16, 2027, senatorial election.

Amadi, through a statement issued on Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Cajetan Duke, alleged that credible information pointed to a possible plot to eliminate him.

He consequently called on the Imo State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to investigate the reported threats, establish their credibility, and take urgent steps to safeguard his life and those of other individuals who may be at risk.

The latest allegation comes after Amadi’s campaign organization raised a similar concern on September 8, 2026, over an alleged plan to militarize Ngor Okpala. The campaign described the development as a potential threat to public peace, political tolerance, and democratic participation.

The organization insisted that political contests should be determined by policies, ideas, candidates’ records, and the choices of voters rather than intimidation, violence, or attempts to silence political opponents.

Reaffirming Amadi’s commitment to the senatorial race, the campaign declared that no threat or intimidation would force him to abandon his ambition.

It also urged security agencies to conduct discreet but comprehensive investigations and provide adequate protection for politically exposed persons to ensure a peaceful and violence-free electoral process.

SNOW TV EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
The allegation raises serious concerns about the safety of political actors and the credibility of the democratic process in Imo State. Whether politically motivated or otherwise, threats against candidates should not be treated lightly. Security agencies must investigate the claims impartially, establish the facts, and act where necessary. Equally important, political parties and their supporters must reject violence and intimidation.

Democracy thrives when candidates compete through ideas and public support, not fear. The protection of every candidate’s right to participate freely in the electoral process is essential to a credible election.
