Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated further after President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces carried out another strike on an Iranian air defense installation, just hours after Washington announced a reward of up to $20 million for information about Tehran’s nuclear program.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, November 6, Trump described the latest military operation as a relatively minor strike, insisting that the United States was not at war with Iran despite the growing confrontation between both countries.
According to the president, American forces quickly destroyed an Iranian anti-aircraft installation that had recently been constructed.
“They built a little bit of an anti-aircraft device, and we knocked it out in about 15 minutes, maybe five,” Trump said.
Iranian state media reported two explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm Island, which is strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for international oil shipments.
Friday’s operation marked the second round of reported American strikes against Iranian targets within the week. Earlier on Monday, US forces carried out what Washington described as defensive military operations, with explosions reported around Qeshm and Hengam islands and near Bandar Abbas, a major Iranian naval hub.
Despite the continued military action, Trump maintained that Washington was not engaged in a full-scale war with Tehran, claiming that the United States had the situation under control and remained in communication with Iranian officials.
The conflict has also become a political issue at home. Trump acknowledged that the military confrontation and rising petrol prices contributed to Republican losses in the November 3 midterm elections, which saw Democrats gain control of both chambers of Congress.
Meanwhile, the US State Department announced a reward of up to $20 million, alongside possible relocation assistance, for individuals willing to provide credible information about Iran’s nuclear program. The initiative targets information on nuclear scientists, personnel, organizations, technologies, and other capabilities connected to the program.
Diplomatic efforts are also reportedly underway, with Qatar attempting to broker proposals aimed at reducing tensions. However, Iranian officials have reportedly demanded sanctions relief, the unfreezing of assets, compensation for war damage, and an end to the blockade of Iranian ports before considering negotiations over its nuclear program.
Concerns about further American attacks have also prompted Iranian authorities to distribute emergency guidance to residents near suspected nuclear facilities, including Pickaxe Mountain. Reports indicate that iodine tablets have also been distributed to people living close to nuclear sites.
Trump has previously claimed that American strikes significantly damaged Iran’s potential nuclear capabilities, although he suggested that Pickaxe Mountain could still become a target.
With military operations continuing alongside diplomatic discussions, the confrontation remains far from resolved, raising fresh concerns about regional security, global oil supplies, and the possibility of a wider conflict in the Middle East.
