Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, has disclosed that cybercriminals are targeting him after allegedly publishing his personal information on the dark web, raising fresh concerns about online security and the growing use of cyberattacks to intimidate public officials.
Tajani made the disclosure on Saturday, November 7, 2026, revealing that the hackers had been circulating his private details online for several days while attempting to obtain additional information about him.
In a statement shared on his official X account, the Italian foreign minister said the exposure of his personal information had placed him at risk of further threats and intimidation.
He suggested that the attack could be politically motivated, linking it to Italy’s continued support for Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia.
According to Tajani, Italy’s position on the conflict is rooted in its commitment to protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty, democracy, and independence.
Despite the reported cyberattack, the minister insisted that the threats would not force him to abandon his position or weaken his country’s support for Kyiv.
“I will not allow myself to be intimidated under any circumstances,” he declared.
Italy has remained among the European countries supporting Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Its assistance to Kyiv has included humanitarian aid and military support as Ukrainian forces continue to defend the country’s territory.
Tajani’s revelation highlights the growing security challenges facing political leaders and government officials, particularly as cybercriminals increasingly use stolen personal information, online exposure, and digital intimidation to advance political or criminal objectives.
The dark web, a part of the internet that is not accessible through ordinary search engines, has become a platform for the circulation of stolen personal information, leaked records, and other sensitive materials.
Although Tajani has linked the incident to Italy’s foreign policy position, the identities of those responsible and the full circumstances surrounding the alleged breach were not immediately established.
The incident also raises broader questions about the protection of sensitive information belonging to government officials, especially at a time when cyber threats are increasingly becoming part of international political and security tensions.
For now, the Italian foreign minister appears determined to maintain his country’s position on Ukraine despite the reported threats.
