Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has reacted to Wizkid’s recent social media outburst following ongoing comparisons between the Afrobeats star and the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The response comes after Wizkid took to Instagram to lash out at Seun with harsh words while insisting that he is bigger than Fela in terms of modern-day success.
Addressing the controversy, Seun acknowledged the attention the exchange had generated but stood firmly by his position on preserving his father’s legacy. In a post shared online, he suggested that Wizkid should focus on being himself, adding that he is already great in his own right.
The disagreement began when Seun publicly rejected comparisons that place Wizkid above Fela, arguing that such claims reduce Fela’s immense political, cultural, and historical influence to mere commercial achievements.
Seun has also criticised Wizkid’s supporters for repeatedly invoking Fela’s name in online arguments, describing the practice as disrespectful and rooted in a misunderstanding of history. He maintained that Fela’s legacy as an activist and cultural revolutionary transcends music charts and fame.
