Some Nigerians Claim Food Prices Are Dropping – Oshiomhole says

Former Edo State governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has stirred public debate following comments he made in defence of the Federal Government’s economic reforms during an interview on Channels Television.

According to Naija News, Oshiomhole responded to questions on whether the ongoing reforms have worsened living conditions for ordinary Nigerians. He maintained that the policies were designed to drive meaningful change and rejected claims that they have plunged citizens into hardship.

He argued that many of the criticisms were speculative rather than grounded in verifiable facts. Oshiomhole further stated that, contrary to widespread belief, some Nigerians believe food prices are becoming more affordable.

Questioning the narrative of widespread suffering, he asked whether there was concrete evidence to support claims that average Nigerians are severely affected.

“We promised far-reaching reforms,” he said. “Who exactly are the so-called average people? Have you personally gone out to hear people complain? There are Nigerians today who are saying food is becoming too cheap.”

In a related development, Oshiomhole also defended President Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms, describing them as aligned with progressive governance principles.

Speaking again on Channels Television, he said the new tax policies are designed to ease the burden on low-income earners while placing greater responsibility on the wealthy. He added that he was among the lawmakers who supported the bill before it was passed into law.

“The realities on the ground show that President Tinubu’s tax policy reflects the ideals of a progressive government,” Oshiomhole said. “It is a system that taxes higher earners more while granting relief and exemptions to those who earn less.”
