A 27-year-old woman, identified as Esther Akwaji, has reportedly died after collapsing under unclear circumstances at her boyfriend’s home in Abuja.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the man’s residence in Dei-Dei, within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while the couple was having a meal.
SaharaReporters disclosed that the boyfriend allegedly disappeared shortly after Esther’s death, and his identity has yet to be confirmed.
Sources said Esther, who lived in Nasarawa State, had travelled to Abuja to visit relatives. On January 21, she reportedly left her family home, saying she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei, but failed to return.
Several hours later, her family was said to have received a call from a man who introduced himself as her boyfriend, using Esther’s phone. He reportedly told them that she had come to see him and that he had bought food for them.
The man allegedly claimed that Esther suddenly became unwell while they were eating and that he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
It was further reported that the boyfriend fled the hospital shortly after doctors confirmed her death and has remained unreachable since then.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, told SaharaReporters that the police have launched a thorough investigation.
She said the body has been deposited for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect who fled.
