Tottenham Hotspur have initiated talks with Liverpool as they consider a potential summer move for experienced left-back Andy Robertson.
The 31-year-old Scotland international is entering the final months of his contract at Anfield and recently admitted he is uncertain about his future. With the World Cup approaching, Robertson is eager to secure consistent playing time after struggling for regular starts this season.
According to BBC Sport, Spurs have made an initial enquiry to Liverpool, though discussions remain at an early stage and no deal has been agreed.
Robertson has found opportunities limited this campaign, starting just four Premier League matches. His latest appearance came as a substitute in Liverpool’s 1–1 draw with Burnley on January 17.
Ahead of that match, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot described Robertson as an “important” figure at the club and praised his professionalism following the arrival of summer signing Milos Kerkez, who has taken over the starting role.
Liverpool signed Robertson from Hull City for £8 million in 2017 under former manager Jürgen Klopp. Since then, he has made 363 appearances for the club and played a central role in one of the most successful eras in Liverpool’s recent history.
If Robertson leaves, Kerkez would remain Slot’s only senior specialist left-back. The club could look to strengthen that position by recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.
Tottenham, on the other hand, recently added Brazilian left-back Souza to their squad and already have options in that area. Destiny Udogie has been Thomas Frank’s preferred choice this season, with Djed Spence serving as cover.
Veteran defender Ben Davies was also part of the rotation, but the 32-year-old suffered a broken ankle on Sunday and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
A potential move for Robertson would mark a notable shift in Tottenham’s recruitment approach, as they currently have one of the youngest squads in the Premier League. Davies is the only Spurs player over the age of 30.
During his time at Liverpool, Robertson has won nine major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, establishing himself as one of the most reliable left-backs of his generation.
