The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned supporters of its presidential aspirants against adopting a rigid “my-candidate-or-nothing” stance, cautioning that such attitudes could hurt the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during the party’s virtual ADC Coalition Hours on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, stressed the importance of unity and collective support for all aspirants seeking the party’s ticket.
Abdullahi urged supporters to avoid divisive slogans, noting that internal discord only plays into the hands of the ruling APC and President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, insisting on one candidate to the exclusion of others is counterproductive, as securing the party’s ticket alone does not guarantee electoral victory. He emphasized that winning the election requires cohesion and shared purpose.
The ADC, which emerged as a coalition platform for opposition leaders in July 2025, is positioning itself as a united front against the APC in 2027. Under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, the party has been expanding its structures nationwide.
Several prominent figures have already joined the party and indicated interest in the presidential race, including Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, with more declarations expected.
Addressing internal debates over zoning, Abdullahi acknowledged differing views among supporters but said he has personally engaged key stakeholders to promote harmony and collective focus.
He reaffirmed that all aspirants are qualified and warned against elevating any individual above others, stressing that chants such as “Peter Obi or nothing” only deepen divisions and ultimately weaken the party’s chances of success.
