BREAKING : Tinubu appoints first female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Odusote’s four-year tenure will begin on January 10, 2026.

At 54, Odusote is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Her appointment makes her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026.

Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the same institution, with a focus on company and commercial law, before earning a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. Her research interests include public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several key positions, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Campus Head. She also served briefly as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

A prolific scholar, Odusote has published widely in both local and international law journals and has presented papers at numerous legal education conferences. She has also served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, she will oversee the Nigerian Law School’s academic and administrative affairs, provide strategic leadership across all campuses, and act as the principal link between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
