The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned alleged threats made by the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarrett Tenebe, against a female critic of the Edo State Government.
In a statement issued to Naija News on Saturday, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, described the alleged remarks as reckless, dangerous, and deeply anti-democratic, calling on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene.
The opposition party cited reports claiming that Tenebe demanded the residential address of a female citizen who criticised the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo and allegedly warned her that “death awaits you.”
“This goes beyond political rhetoric or metaphor. It is a direct threat to life issued by a senior official of the ruling party in Edo State,” the PDP said.
According to the party, such statements represent a troubling slide into political intolerance and warned that threatening citizens for exercising their constitutional rights poses a serious danger to democracy.
The PDP also expressed concern over repeated assertions by Tenebe and Governor Okpebholo that the APC would “deliver” 3.5 million votes to President Tinubu in future presidential elections.
It noted that publicly available data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show that Edo State has fewer than 2.7 million registered voters.
“When projected vote figures exceed the total number of registered voters, the implications are disturbing,” the statement said, suggesting that such claims raise fears of voter intimidation or electoral manipulation.
The party called on President Tinubu to immediately “call Jarrett Tenebe to order” and publicly distance himself from any threats of violence or conduct that undermines democratic norms in Edo State.
“Silence in the face of this behaviour would amount to tacit endorsement,” the PDP warned.
It also urged security agencies to investigate the alleged death threat and take appropriate action, stressing that no Nigerian should be harassed or intimidated for expressing political views.
