Eid-el-Fitr: Kano Govt Fixes March 1 for School Sallah Break

The administration of Abba Yusuf has declared Sunday, March 1, as the start of the Eid al-Fitr holiday for all public and private primary and secondary schools in Kano State.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, the decision is in line with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, which schedules the end of the second term for Saturday, February 28.

Yakasai confirmed that both day and boarding schools across the state are to begin the Sallah holiday on March 1. He advised parents and guardians, especially those with children in boarding schools, to make necessary arrangements ahead of the break.

He specifically urged parents to ensure that students in boarding facilities are picked up by the early hours of Friday, February 27, 2026, to ensure a seamless transition into the holiday period.

The ministry also outlined the resumption dates for the continuation of the academic session. Boarding students are expected to return on Sunday, March 22, while day students will resume on Monday, March 23, 2026.

It further stated that the second term will continue from March 22 and conclude on Saturday, April 18.

School administrators have been directed to strictly comply with the approved resumption schedule, with the ministry warning that failure to do so would be treated as a breach of government directives.

The State Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, appealed to parents, guardians, and school authorities to adhere fully to the academic calendar to avoid disruptions.

He also thanked residents for their ongoing support of the government’s educational policies and extended his best wishes to pupils and students for a successful Ramadan fast and a peaceful Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The clarification offers guidance to thousands of students, parents, and school officials across Kano as preparations for the festive period gather momentum.
