Iranian drones struck the United States Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, on Tuesday morning.
According to Saudi authorities, the incident sparked a minor fire and caused limited damage within the diplomatic compound. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the embassy district, which houses several foreign missions.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames, although the fire was quickly contained. The embassy premises were unoccupied at the time of the attack, and no casualties were recorded.
Saudi air defence systems reportedly intercepted four additional drones targeting the diplomatic area during the assault.
In the aftermath, the US embassy urged American citizens to avoid the vicinity.
The incident followed a related development at the US embassy in Kuwait, which announced its closure until further notice. The United States Department of State has also directed non-essential personnel and their families to depart from Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Qatar, and Jordan as a precautionary measure.
The strike comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region, where Iran has targeted sites hosting American forces in retaliation for recent US and Israeli actions within Iranian territory.
On Monday, Saudi Aramco suspended operations at its Ras Tanura refinery after debris from an Iranian drone ignited a fire at the facility.
