JUST IN : IGP Disu Relieves Benjamin Hundeyin of Duties as Force PRO

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly relieved Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin of his position as Force Public Relations Officer, barely six months after he assumed the role.

According to reports, the decision was approved on Thursday, March 5, 2026, although the reason for the development had not been disclosed at the time of filing this report.

The change comes shortly after a leadership transition within the police hierarchy. On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.

Disu was recently appointed as the 23rd Inspector-General following the removal of Kayode Egbetokun, who had held the position since 2023.

Sources within the police indicated that Hundeyin’s removal was carried out on Thursday morning as part of ongoing adjustments within the force under the new leadership.

A senior officer confirmed that the decision was implemented earlier in the day, noting that such changes are common when a new Inspector-General assumes office.

As of the time of this report, the police had not announced who would replace Hundeyin as the next Force Public Relations Officer.

Hundeyin was appointed police spokesperson by former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. A native of Badagry in Lagos State, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

He also received training in civil-military coordination at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State.

During his career, Hundeyin served as Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, and participated in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.

He is also a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the International Public Relations Association and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
