UAE President Labels Iran “Enemy” in First War Remarks, Warns Country Is Not Easy Target

President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has openly described Iran as “the enemy” while warning that the UAE is “not easy prey,” signaling a major departure from the country’s traditionally cautious tone toward its Gulf neighbour.

The Emirati leader, popularly known as MBZ, made the rare public remarks during a visit to a hospital where civilians injured in recent strikes were receiving treatment.

“I wanted to send a message to the enemy of the UAE. The UAE is beautiful and a model to be followed, but do not be deceived by that. The UAE’s hand can reach far and is strong. Its flesh is bitter, and we are not easy prey,” MBZ said.

Like several Gulf states, the UAE has reportedly faced threats from Iranian strikes targeting not only United States military bases but also civilian and economic facilities in the region.

The statement came shortly after Emirati air defence systems responded to a missile threat, despite earlier claims by Iran’s president that attacks across the Gulf would cease.

“We are fulfilling our duty to our country, our people, and everyone who lives among us. May God protect the UAE, its citizens, and all residents, and grant the nation security and safety. I promise that what lies ahead will make us stronger,” he added.

This marks MBZ’s first public comment since the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran began. Historically, the UAE has maintained a delicate diplomatic balance with Tehran despite long-standing regional tensions, making the president’s direct language particularly notable.

The remarks suggest that the Emirati leadership now views the reported Iranian missile threats as crossing a red line, prompting a firmer public response even if it risks further escalating tensions with the powerful neighbour across the Gulf.
