‘So Edo Can Win’ – PDP Spokesperson Resigns, Declares Support for Okpebholo

The Edo State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Daniel A. Noah Osa-Ogbegie, has resigned from the party, stating that his decision followed wide consultations and careful reflection on the prevailing political situation.

In a statement titled “That Edo May Win,” Osa-Ogbegie said he arrived at the decision after discussions with friends, associates, political leaders, and members of his family and community.

According to him, politics should primarily serve as a vehicle for improving the welfare of the people.

He noted that when circumstances require a reassessment of political alignment in order to continue contributing meaningfully to society, leaders must be willing to make tough decisions.

“After careful reflection and broad consultations with friends, associates, political leaders, and members of my immediate family and community, I have taken the difficult but necessary step to resign my membership of the PDP,” he said.

Osa-Ogbegie acknowledged that his time in the party provided valuable experiences and relationships, expressing appreciation to members and leaders who worked to strengthen democracy and support development in Edo State.

Despite his gratitude, he stated that the current political environment demands honest reflection about the condition of the opposition in the country.

The lawyer observed that opposition parties have struggled to organise themselves effectively to present a strong and coordinated political alternative.

He also pointed to the lack of visible interest from credible aspirants on opposition platforms, even as the deadline for party nominations draws near.

According to him, the situation calls for serious reflection from those committed to constructive political participation.

Osa-Ogbegie added that his decision was also influenced by his observations of the emerging administration of Monday Okpebholo.

He said supporting the governor would help promote stability and development in the state.

“Senator Okpebholo is not a stranger to me; he is a friend and a brother. If he succeeds, Edo succeeds, and when Edo succeeds, we all succeed,” he said.

The former PDP spokesperson emphasised that while political affiliations may change, the responsibility of leadership should always focus on advancing the collective good.

He added that the true aim of politics should not be the triumph of one party over another, but the progress and wellbeing of the people.

“In the end, the victory that truly matters is not that of one political party over another, but the success of Edo State itself,” he stated.

Osa-Ogbegie expressed hope that his decision would help foster unity, stability, and development in the state.

“If this step moves Edo closer to stability, progress, and dignity, then the decision would have been worthwhile. God bless Edo State,” he added.
