Benin Traditional Council Sanctions Chief, Queen Over Unauthorized Palace Visit by Peller

The Benin Traditional Council has imposed disciplinary measures on a palace chief, a queen, and other individuals following the unauthorized entry of social media personality Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, into the Oba of Benin’s palace.

The council condemned the incident as a serious violation of palace protocol, noting that the visit disrupted order and undermined the sanctity of the royal institution.

According to the council, Adelaja and his entourage gained access without adhering to established procedures, an action that caused embarrassment and tension within the palace.

Following a preliminary investigation, a palace chief linked to the incident has been suspended, while a staff member, Mr. Omuemu, has been arrested and charged for facilitating the unlawful entry.

The queen allegedly involved is currently under review and could face possible removal.

The council has also summoned Adelaja to appear for questioning and directed him to submit a formal written apology, warning that failure to comply may result in legal action.

In response to the incident, stricter access guidelines have been introduced, including mandatory written requests, prior authorization, a ban on loitering, and the issuance of official access permits.

The council emphasized that any future breach of palace rules will be treated as a violation of traditional law, with offenders liable to arrest and prosecution, reiterating its commitment to preserving the cultural and spiritual integrity of the Benin Palace.

Peller is currently on a tour across various states in Nigeria.
