A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has called on the party to carefully manage the emotions of its members while maintaining focus on political realities.
Speaking during an appearance on Morning Show on Arise Television, Rhodes-Vivour stressed the importance of unity within the party, particularly after its primary elections.
He noted that the ADC currently boasts about two million registered members, adding that efforts are ongoing to expand its membership base.
According to him, the process of selecting a presidential candidate should not be trivialised, acknowledging the strong passion and support different aspirants enjoy.
“It’s not about financial incentives—people genuinely believe in and support their candidates. As a party, we must manage those emotions with the practicality of politics,” he said.
He emphasised the need for clear messaging from both the party leadership and its leading contenders to help supporters understand the bigger picture.
Rhodes-Vivour warned against allowing disappointment over primary outcomes to derail the party’s broader mission, urging members to remain committed regardless of who emerges as the candidate.
He concluded by calling for collective action, noting that a united opposition remains crucial, especially in light of lessons from previous elections.
