IPAC Urges INEC to Reconsider ADC Dispute Handling and Voter Revalidation Timing

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its handling of the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that missteps could undermine public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja by IPAC National Publicity Secretary Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, the council also raised concerns about the timing of a nationwide voter revalidation exercise and condemned ongoing killings in Plateau State.

IPAC described the reported removal of Distinguished Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from INEC’s official portal as premature, saying it could trigger unnecessary instability and set a harmful precedent. The council emphasized that internal party disputes do not equate to a vacuum in party leadership.

The council also warned that the proposed voter revalidation could overwhelm political parties and risk disenfranchising millions if implemented without sufficient consultation. “Introducing such an exercise at a time when stakeholders are already navigating obligations under the new Electoral Act could exclude rather than include citizens,” the statement noted. IPAC urged INEC to reconsider the schedule to ensure a smooth electoral process.

On security, the council condemned the persistent violence in Plateau State, describing the killings as senseless and a threat to national unity, and called for the swift apprehension and prosecution of perpetrators and their sponsors.

IPAC stressed that credible elections, stable institutions, and secure conditions are essential for Nigeria’s democracy to thrive.
