Netanyahu Fires Chief of Staff Over Racist Remarks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed his chief of staff, Ziv Agmon, following backlash over alleged racist comments.

The decision was announced late Sunday, with Netanyahu confirming that Agmon will step down in the coming days once his successor, Ido Norden, assumes office.

Agmon, who had been serving as acting chief of staff and spokesperson, faced criticism after reportedly making offensive remarks about Jews of Moroccan descent, as well as disparaging comments about members of the Likud party and Netanyahu’s family.

The controversy sparked widespread outrage, prompting a swift response from the prime minister. Notably, the move marked a reversal, as earlier statements from the Likud had suggested Netanyahu wanted Agmon to remain in position for stability.

Meanwhile, Norden’s appointment has also drawn attention, with reports questioning his past actions, including allegations of using fake social media accounts to promote his views on state institutions.

His appointment remains subject to approval by Shin Bet.

The development adds to ongoing controversies within Netanyahu’s circle, including scrutiny of close allies such as Tzachi Braverman and investigations linked to the broader “Qatargate” allegations.
