Javier Mascherano Steps Down as Inter Miami CF Coach After Historic MLS Cup Win

Inter Miami CF have announced that head coach Javier Mascherano has resigned due to personal reasons, bringing an end to a remarkable spell in charge.

The former Argentina captain departs less than a year after leading the club to its first-ever MLS Cup and a record-breaking 2025 season—the most successful campaign in the club’s history.

In a statement, Mascherano expressed gratitude to the club, staff, players, and fans for their support, noting that the achievements and memories created during his tenure would remain with him.

Club managing owner Jorge Mas praised Mascherano’s impact, describing him as a key figure in the team’s historic successes and commending his leadership and dedication.

Under his guidance, Inter Miami secured both the MLS Cup and Eastern Conference title, while setting a new league record with 101 goals in a single season. The team also made headlines internationally by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA Club World Cup—a first for an MLS side—and achieving notable victories against European opposition.

Additionally, the club reached the semi-finals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and another final in the Leagues Cup.

Mascherano leaves alongside his coaching staff, with assistant coach Guillermo Hoyos set to take interim charge. Meanwhile, chief soccer officer Alberto Marrero will assume sporting director responsibilities as the club begins its search for a permanent replacement.
