President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed his readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election in pursuit of a second term in office.
Speaking on Thursday, Tinubu said his ambition is driven by a commitment to tackle ignorance and poverty, inspire hope among Nigerians, and safeguard democratic governance in the country.
He also took a swipe at opposition parties, stressing his intention to offer leadership beyond what he described as the “noise and disorder” often associated with political gatherings. The president emphasized the need for adherence to the principle of separation of powers and respect for judicial decisions, even when they are unfavorable.
Tinubu made the remarks during a meeting with leaders and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Dismissing intimidation from political opponents, the president maintained that he remains unfazed, noting that his past political experiences have prepared him for the challenges ahead.
“They think they can scare me off? That’s not possible. I’ve walked this path before, and I’m ready to do it again if necessary,” he said.
Meanwhile, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his reported interest in the 2027 race.
Onanuga argued that Atiku’s ambition appears self-serving and disregards Nigeria’s zoning arrangement, which traditionally favors a southern candidate for the next presidential cycle. He added that such moves have previously contributed to internal crises within opposition parties and could trigger similar issues again.
