A faction of Boko Haram, identified as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government, threatening to kill 416 captives—mostly women and children—if its demands are not met.
In a video reportedly obtained by SaharaReporters, a masked spokesperson announced that the countdown had begun, stating that the directive was addressed to the government and a group known as the Borno South Youth Alliance.
According to the group, both parties had already exchanged terms, warning that no adjustments would be accepted. The spokesperson stressed that failure to comply within the stipulated time would lead to severe consequences, insisting the group would act on its threats.
The insurgents also cautioned against any military rescue attempt, warning that such action could worsen the situation.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the Federal Government.
Appeal for Urgent Intervention
Reacting to the development, the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Sama’ila Ibrahim Kaigama, made an emotional appeal to top government officials, including Bola Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, Babagana Zulum, and Nuhu Ribadu, urging swift intervention.
Kaigama expressed concern over the lack of communication from authorities, noting that no official contact had been made so far. He explained that he has been making personal efforts to mediate and explore possible ways to secure the captives’ release.
He also called on influential individuals, including business leaders, to support ongoing efforts aimed at saving the victims.
