SAD : Tanker kills dispatch rider in Lagos crash

A dispatch rider has died in a tragic accident along the Motorways inward Estate area of Alapere in Lagos after being hit by an empty tanker reportedly speeding.

Early reports indicate that the tanker, marked “NIPCO” with registration number TTN-776ZQ, rammed into the rider, killing him instantly at the scene.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly arrived to manage the situation, as fellow dispatch riders gathered and confronted the tanker driver in anger.

LASTMA officers intervened, rescuing the injured driver and handing him over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent treatment at a nearby hospital.

Police operatives from the Alausa Division were also deployed to restore calm and disperse the crowd.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the victim’s family and urged motorists—especially tanker drivers—to strictly obey traffic rules.

He noted that the tragic incident highlights the need for greater caution and shared responsibility among road users to protect lives.

The tanker and the wrecked motorcycle have been taken into police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
